Presenting works by Aze Ong and Norman A. Ramirez in a two-person exhibition, “Resurgence” is informed by the ‘reawakening’ of the world as activities resume. With this new beginning, a heightened consciousness emerges coming from a period of restlessness and unpredictability. Despite the return of instability in geopolitics, issues with the environment and other contemporary concerns, renewed ways of responding to the world have found their way to the present. The exhibition also signals the ‘resurgence’ of artistic collaborations between Ong and Ramirez.
Aze Ong (b. 1977) wills fiber into forms of delicate structures that take lives of their own or that flourish into environments or bloom as installations. Her process is intricate as it is intuitive; shaped by thresholds of physical endurance or determinations of duration. She was the recipient of the Asian Cultural Council (ACC) Fellowship in 2016. Her works have been featured in institutional and gallery exhibitions in Singapore, Abu Dhabi, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Canada, the United States, among others. She completed an artist residency at the Bliss on Bliss Art Projects in Queens, New York.
Norman A. Ramirez’s (b.1969 )practice traverses different formats such as printmaking, cartooning, and advertising. Ramirez's art-making process is informed by the potential of art to be used as a tool in therapy. He received his BFA from the University of the Philippines, Diliman (Visual Communication) and is an alumnus of Philippine Women's University (PWU) - The Jose Abad Santos Memorial School, where he currently works and teaches as part of their administration and faculty.
