Assessing the transformation of material into an image, Jonas Eslao’s first solo exhibition with MONO8 Step Across the Threshold is anchored in the artist’s investigation into the limitations and constraints in his practice through process and form. Presenting new works that forge sculptural elements to painting, Eslao pushes the boundaries of the medium and expands formats of abstract expressionism and the visual articulation of feelings, sentiments, and emotions.

Jonas Eslao (b. 1984) explores abstract expressionism through gestural landscapes and images. He engages in activities where the thrust shown in every pictorial no longer rests in the images and subjects produced but rather in how the internal stimulus of the artist controls every brushstroke and spontaneous motion that happens within. He received his BFA in Painting from the University of the Philippines, Diliman. His works have been featured at Art Fair Philippines, ALT Philippines, and the Visayas Art Fair.
