Gabrielle Lockwood Estrin

Carina Santos

Brittany M. Watkins

April 6 - April 28, 2022

(not within or beyond) features the works of Gabrielle Lockwood Estrin (UK), Carina Santos (UK/PH), and Brittany M. Watkins (USA). The works presented together to create conversations on themes of what it is to be in and out, to be both the observer and the participant, and how does the subject respond or try to exist in space that is unavailable to them. Their works, intentional or not, are responses to the unavailability of space from positions of unavailability by creating spaces; a space for themselves and a space for others to look into. (not within or beyond) brings a selection of artists whose works respond to these ideas via abstraction, internalized space, and fictional narratives.

Carina Santos is an artist, writer, and designer based between Manila and London. She has a specific interest in bridging connections between seemingly unrelated concepts. Santos completed her Masters in Theory and Philosophy at the Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London. Since moving to the UK, she has been venturing into a more diverse approach, introducing new media (websites, video, sound) into the overall body of work, with a particular interest in collaboration and communication via the Internet.

Gabrielle Lockwood Estrin is an Artist based in Glasgow in the UK where she has her studio. She received her undergraduate degree at The Glasgow School of Art with a study abroad placement at Instituto Superior de Arte, Havana. She was awarded a scholarship to the Royal Drawing School for postgraduate study, following that she undertook a two year printmaking fellowship at City and Guilds of London Art School. She has exhibited widely in London, Berlin, Havana, Glasgow and Edinburgh and around the UK and has been awarded artist residencies in Scotland, Venice, America, and Cuba. She currently lives and works in Glasgow.

Brittany M. Watkins is an interdisciplinary artist based in the Southern United States.
