VICTORIA / VICTORIA YUJUICO KEET:

PERMUTATIONS

Permutations surveys the emerging practices of artists Victoria and Victoria Yujuico Keet. In this show, the two artists bring to the fore works that propel the power of imagery as an instigating element in settings and narratives that describe the meanings of sites and the human body.

Victoria (b. 1991) uses colour, texture, and form in creating visually stimulating images while experimenting with spontaneity and chance. Her works draw influence from analytical cubism and abstract expressionism. Victoria studied at De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde and La Consolacion College, Manila.

Victoria Yujuico Keet re-interpreted scenes from “Bomba” films (soft-porn movies popular in the 80s), which are then rendered with the style, colours, and forms of the old masters. Here, Yujuico Keet attempts to conflate both highbrow and lowbrow modes of aestheticising the female body; and placing an emphasis on the class and power relations of sex and art. Yujuico Keet studied art and design at Central Saint Martins in London and received her degree in Art History from the University of the Arts London.
