ABOUT THE ARTIST

Koki Lxx is an independent curator and artist. His past project “Self-Portrait as Mirror/Mirror as Self-Portrait” at Artinformal is an examination of self-portraiture through actual and figurative mirrors. Koki studied Art Studies at the University of the Philippines and has written exhibition essays for artists Rodel Tapaya, Marina Cruz, Elaine Navas, and Mars Bugaoan. As an artist, Koki explores ceramics as a medium and extends his works to installation and abstract paintings. Isochronous is his first solo exhibition at MONO8.

An isochronous curve allows objects traveling from different starting points to arrive at the destination at the same time. At the same time —no matter the effort to prevent it — history somehow repeats itself no matter how long it takes.

Sacrifices for human rights and freedom in 1973, 1976, 1977 (twice), 2017, and 2021 — were disregarded in 2022 as “they had it coming” and “they probably did something.”

From 8 February to 9 May 2022, a geological record from Quezon City captured the trends and data leading to the election of new leaders of a democracy.

In 1980, the greatest thing about the Filipino was said. Forty-two years later, it was canceled by most of them because it victimized the Father and Mother of the country.

The execution of Rizal was like a dream*; this feels like a nightmare.

Six past, present, and future ghosts are gathered, all according to destiny: a great-grandfather, a grandfather, a grandmother, a sister, a father, and a son.

Thirty-six years have passed since a power that came from the people was manifested and was admired by the rest of the world. It is also when social media becomes a power that discards fact as a mere opinion and can distract from the truth with the use of filters.

1981 was a golden age for film, with pomp and pageantry built upon blood and bone. Its monument still stands, a lasting testament to the memory of those who built it.

White is the color of purity, innocence, and starting anew. It is the preferred color of those who want to control others by a built environment or clothing: white is gold.
