ABOUT THE ARTIST

Edo Pop or Eduard was born in Palembang, South Sumatra in 1972, educated in SMSR Palembang (1989 – 1993) and later on at (ISI) the Indonesia Institute of Art Yogyakarta (1995 – 2000).

Women have an important role in the survival of human history,. A woman is the only one who gives descendants in regenerating and reproducing a civilization. With various kinds of complex problems, women are able to act as a balancer, a middle ground, and a way out of life's solutions. How the quality of society, family, quality of children and the quality of women itself depends on the role of women as mothers. The role of women as mothers can often overcome various kinds of family problems. Women often have multiple roles, taking care of the family, overcoming kitchen problems, and working to support the family.

In this case, women are the main characters or characters in Edo Pop works, just as women are a source of inspiration and a source of life, as well as giving life to the visuals of the work. Edo Pop is struggling or defending his opinion that without women, we will lose social life, without family and dynamics in achieving quality social values. How to place women in the painting, Edo Pop does not only position equality with men but also persuades him to become the noblest creature. Of course, this is a visual form dedicated to the highest respect for women. Women are not positioned as objects, but women are mothers.

A pregnant mother for nine months almost died trying to give birth, caring for, loving more than herself, and even working to raise her child and provide the best education for her child. How complex the problems posed to women, such as social, mental, spiritual, and economic burdens, Edo Pop describes in the distortion of form, complexity, symbols, and techniques in representing these ideas.

Whatever becomes visual in the object of Edo Pop's painting cannot be separated from the structural experience, the culture of the society in which he was born, and his current life experiences. In addition, it is strengthened by the knowledge and education behind it. Edo Pop was born in a village that respects his mother very much and spends more time with his mother than his father. His father is mostly outside because of work. Meanwhile, the environment is also very harsh in daily life competition.

His association formed critical knowledge so that he was active in the organization, conveying his ideas visually and in practice in the community. Moreover, Edo Pop explores various extreme ideas as subjects in his paintings. His ideas conveyed through visual language can be felt and fully actualized in his work, like Edo Pop with his work and women as his breath.
